This Tuesday morning in Asia, traders awoke to see something very familiar indeed – Bitcoin (BTC) staying strong at the $29~30K mark it has held for weeks, while Ethereum (ETH) has also remained solid at $1.8K. Ripple (XRP) has also returned to a normal range following its brief market cap leap into the trillions last week.

Meanwhile, a submission by former US president Donald Trump to the US Office of Government Ethics has revealed a holding of cryptocurrency to the tune of as much as $500,000. Throughout his tenure as president, Trump’s rhetoric was not particularly pro-crypto – however, the former president did release a set of NFT cards featuring pictures of himself – so it wouldn’t be his first foray into the Web3 world.

Over in South America, a pro-crypto presidential candidate in Argentina has just won the first round of polling. The win has sent shockwaves across spectators around the world – the candidate was not previously favored to win, and according to CoinDesk, was expected to come in no higher-placed than 3rd. While the candidate hasn’t released an official plan to implement crypto as tender, akin to what El Salvador is doing, he has referred to Bitcoin as ‘the return of money to its original creator’.

While these developments don’t represent the concrete policy steps the crypto industry continues to seek, it does represent an exciting shift of prominent political figures’ attitudes to digital assets and their implementations.
